Popeye Had It All Wrong...

DUDE . . .

Forget the spinach. It's definitely the eggs. Or the fish. Or the eggs and the fish. Though I do love the spinach . . .

I had so much energy in my capoeira class Saturday morning (it helps that I didn't do my strength exercises before class this time.) My body felt strong and solid in every movement. For the first time, I can see real potential for growth in my game.

The change isn't just physical. Teachers often compare capoeira to a conversation. Knowing I could trust my body freed my mind to focus on building that interaction with the person I was playing. This most basic component of the game is more important to me right now than learning fancy tricks—those will come—but I think it is also the most difficult part.

The experience renewed my commitment to PCP and to capoeira. Not just for the results but for the community that makes them both so special.

  1. Oh yeah, sing it, sister! The energy and strength that we're building with the PCP is surprising.

I'm also seeing huge payoffs in increased power, balance, confidence, and grace in my yoga practice (even with only 2-3 sessions a week). It's exactly what you've detailed here -- I don't have to think as much about assuming a posture, tightening this or that. I can simply trust my body to let the asana unfold. At first, I was bummed about PCP robbing from yoga, but any doubts I had in the beginning are long gone.

AND we're about half-way through -- just imagine where we'll be in December! Giddyup!

  2. That's awesome! I know—I can't wait to see our results on Day 90!

  3. That feeling you describe of trusting yourself in the movements is one thing and one thing only, the development of REAL core strength.

  4. I love this post! My entire focus in capoeira is on that conversation -- it's amazing how often it gets lost though as we try to incorporate, train and reinforce some of the fancy new tricks we learn. But, as you know, those tricks aren't useful if they aren't worked into the physical chat we have with our game partner.

Your game is getting tight, Pingo. Timing, flow, smiles -- all there. I love playing with you.
